How I overcame my fears by watching a TV show!

Mish Bridges is the trainer from the Australian Biggest Loser.  She has got such an amazing body, and I aspire to be like her!  Through watching her and the contestants on the Biggest Loser I have managed to overcome a fear!  Read on to find out more….

I just love The Biggest Loser!  I have watched season 3 and 4 of the Ozzie Biggest Loser, and both seasons were immense.  Watching this show really spurred on my weight loss journey, if I was out running, I was thinking “if these people can do it, so can I”, and pushed myself even further.  If I was weight training, and lifting heavier and heavier, I would visualise Mish being a little bird on my shoulder, screaming into my ear, “Suck it up girlfriend!”.  What a buzz!  Watching the contestants overcome their fears also helped me overcome mine.  Ok, so mine seems a little lame, I’ll let you in on what it was,……Ok, here it is: Roller coasters LOL, ok maybe you’re laughing now, but to me it was a very real fear!  I’d never been on any roller coaster since I was 14 and I had absolutely no desire to go on one, I was terrified of them.  I remember queuing up for the Aerosmith coaster at Hollywood MGM Studios in Florida earlier this year.  My two daughters wanted to go on, 8 and 9 btw, no fear at all!  How could I not go on?  We queued for an hour and as we entered the room where the coaster literally takes off from, I was starting to shake!  Thinking to myself, oh my gosh, how am I going to go on this thing?  I was terrified.  We’re at the front of the queue and I’m thinking, ok you can do this, this is your biggest loser moment, overcoming your fears, still shaking like hell, my daughter stepped in first, then me, we’re both strapped in now, and I’m thinking oh gosh, just hold on tight and it’ll be all over before you know it.  And then, what do you know, I looks down to the bar going across the front, and it has a sticker on it saying “UGOGIRL”, and straightaway in my head Mish is there (she says this all the time on the biggest loser), encouraging me on and something just clicked, I thought, what the heck I could shut my eyes and pray it’s over quickly, or right there and then, let go of my fears and enjoy it.  I let go!  And boy, did I enjoy it!  It was so liberating, just letting go of your fears and enjoying yourself.  It was amazing.  Even more so when you’re 8 year old daughter is beside you screaming “this is AWESOME!!!”.  I’m now a roller coaster junkie and have been on all the big rides at Universal, Alton Towers and Blackpool Pleasure Beach (ok, not many big one’s there, but the Pepsi Max is pretty good).  Planning on going to Thorpe Park later in the year, can’t wait to get on Stealth and Saw!   I also want to do a bungee ball and maybe an actual bungee!   Let go and enjoy life, Betty xx
